A trademark assignment refers to transferring ownership of a trademark registration from one party to another. A trademark license or license agreement is a legal document that gives a third party a few restricted rights to use a given trademark. The original owner retains full rights.
If the USPTO hasn’t recorded the assignment, you can contact their Assignment Recordation Branch and possibly suspend the recordation. You’ll have two days to submit a written letter requesting cancellation.
If the USPTO has recorded the assignment, it can’t be canceled. You must follow the steps outlined in the USPTO’s Trademark Manual of Examining Procedure Section 503.06.
